Ready-made letters for your rights
Choose your case, fill in a few fields and get the letter with the right articles of law. Copy it, print it or save it as a PDF. The letters are in Italian, for Italian sellers and contracts.
Your case. Choose the letter.
You bought online, by phone or away from the shop and you don't want it any more. You have 14 days, without giving reasons.
The product broke or doesn't work as it should. The seller is liable for 2 years from delivery.
You paid but the parcel isn't arriving and the delivery date has passed. Give the seller a final deadline.
You want to end your mobile, home internet or pay TV contract. Maximum notice 30 days.
Problems with your neighbours? If music, footsteps, building work or animals often disturb you, even at night, here you can write a kind but clear letter to your noisy neighbours: a formal notice about noise nuisance in the right tone, to send to the neighbour or the building manager.
For the PDF: press “Download PDF or print” and choose “Save as PDF”. The parts in [square brackets] are still missing: fill them in or correct them by hand.
Free information tool: this is not legal advice. Check that your case falls within the rules described. For complex cases or large amounts, contact a consumer association or a lawyer; for neighbour noise, also the building manager or a mediation body. Rules checked as of 25 October 2026. What you write stays on your device: it is neither sent nor saved.
How to send it and what to keep
Use a method that leaves a trace. PEC or a registered letter with return receipt are the safest. Email or the website's form is also fine, if you keep a confirmation. For withdrawal, it's up to you to prove that you exercised it in time (art. 54).
Online purchases from 19 June 2026. The site must have a “Withdraw from the contract here” button and send you a receipt with date and time (art. 54-bis). If it's there, you can use it: it's convenient and the receipt stays with you as proof.
Cancelling phone or pay TV. The provider must accept it in the same ways used to activate the contract, and always online too (art. 1, para. 3-bis, Law 40/2007).
Neighbour noise. Before the letter, if you can, try talking about it calmly. Then keep a log of incidents (date, time, duration, type of noise) and send it by PEC or registered letter with return receipt: the receipt proves the neighbour was informed.
Keep everything. Proof of sending, order confirmation, receipt or invoice, photos of the defect, shipping receipt for the return.
Noisy neighbours: what to do, step by step
If you have noise problems with your neighbours, it's usually best to proceed step by step. It's what I would do.
- Talk to them in person. Often whoever makes the noise doesn't realise it. A calm meeting, at a peaceful moment, solves more than you'd think.
- Keep a log. Note the date, time, duration and type of noise for a few weeks. It helps you explain the problem clearly and, if needed, as evidence.
- Check the building rules. If they set quiet hours, you can ask the building manager to enforce them (arts. 1130 and 1138 of the Italian Civil Code).
- Write a letter. If nothing changed after talking, a letter to noisy neighbours leaves a trace: the form above is a template formal notice about noise nuisance that fills itself in, with a polite tone and a reasonable deadline.
- Try mediation. If the noise continues, for disputes in a condominium an attempt at mediation is usually required before going to court (Legislative Decree 28/2010, art. 5).
Noisy neighbour at night. If night-time noise disturbs the rest of several people, it can also be a criminal offence (art. 659 of the Italian Criminal Code), prosecutable only if someone files a complaint. For loud noise happening right now you can contact the local police or law enforcement.
How I calculate the deadlines
Withdrawal. 14 days (30 for unrequested home visits and trips organised by the seller). The day of delivery doesn't count: if you receive the parcel on the 2nd, the deadline ends at the end of the 16th. For services you start from the day of the contract. If the seller didn't inform you about withdrawal, the deadline is extended by 12 months (arts. 52-53).
Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. If the last day falls on a Saturday, Sunday or national holiday, the deadline moves to the first working day (Reg. EEC 1182/71, art. 3, referred to by Directive 2011/83/EU, recital 41). I point it out, but I still recommend sending by the “normal” day. I take national holidays into account, including 4 October from 2026; not local patron saints' days.
Warranty. It covers defects that appear within 2 years of delivery. If they appear within the first year, they are presumed to have already been there: you don't have to prove it. To claim the defect you have, in any case, 26 months from delivery (arts. 133 and 135).
Delivery. If no date was agreed, the seller must deliver within 30 days of the order (art. 61).
Noise. The deadline you give the neighbour (7, 15 or 30 days) isn't set by law: it's a reasonable time that you choose. The date I show you is indicative, because it counts from when they receive the letter.
What I don't take into account. Orders with several separate deliveries (withdrawal starts from the last parcel), purchases between private individuals, contracts made for your business with a VAT number: in these cases the rules are different or don't apply.

Frequently asked questions
Is this legal advice?
No. It's a free information tool that prepares a standard letter based on the rules of the Italian Consumer Code and, for neighbour noise, the Civil Code. Check that your case falls within these rules. For complex cases or large amounts ask a consumer association or a lawyer.
Do they apply if I bought from a private individual?
No. Withdrawal, the legal warranty and the delivery rules apply when you buy as a consumer from a professional seller (shop, company, online store). Between private individuals, for example on classified-ad sites, they don't apply.
What's the difference between withdrawal and warranty?
Withdrawal is the right to change your mind within 14 days, even if the product is perfect, for purchases made online, by phone or away from the shop. The legal warranty applies for 2 years when the product has a defect, even if you bought it in a shop.
The shop says there's only the manufacturer's warranty. Is that true?
No. The seller always owes the 2-year legal warranty, and agreements that exclude or limit it are void (art. 135-sexies). The manufacturer's warranty, if there is one, comes on top.
Who pays for return shipping?
For withdrawal you usually pay, if the seller had informed you beforehand and hadn't offered to pay for it (art. 57). Under the warranty, however, repair, replacement and shipping are at the seller's expense (arts. 135-ter and 135-quater).
Noisy neighbours: what does the law say?
Art. 844 of the Italian Civil Code says that between neighbours you must put up with noise that doesn't exceed “normal tolerability”, assessed also according to the condition of the places. There's no fixed decibel number: according to the Court of Cassation, the specific case is what matters (area, times, habits). If there are building rules with quiet hours, those must be respected too.
Is it better to write to the neighbour or the building manager?
Usually you start with a friendly contact, then a letter to the neighbour. If the noise concerns the building rules, you can write to the building manager, who must ensure they're respected (art. 1130 of the Civil Code), or send them a copy of the letter.
And if the noise continues after the letter?
You can ask the building manager to step in and propose mediation: for condominium disputes, before going to court, it's usually mandatory (Legislative Decree 28/2010, art. 5). In more serious cases, night-time noise that disturbs several people can also be a criminal offence (art. 659 of the Criminal Code), punishable upon complaint. That's why the log of incidents is useful.
What can I do if I have problems with noisy neighbours?
First try talking about it calmly and keep a log of incidents. If that's not enough, write a letter to the neighbour (this tool gives you a ready template) and, if the noise breaks the quiet hours in the building rules, involve the building manager. If it still continues, the next step is usually mediation (Legislative Decree 28/2010, art. 5); the court assesses whether the noise exceeds normal tolerability (art. 844 of the Civil Code).
How do I write a letter to noisy neighbours?
Describe the facts without accusations: what noise it is, at what times, since when, and whether you've already talked about it. Politely ask them to make less noise within a reasonable deadline, for example 15 days, and send it by PEC or registered letter with return receipt. Here you choose the options and the letter writes itself.
Do you save my data?
No. The letter is created in your browser: name, address and order details are not sent to any server and disappear when you close the page.
